BYD Yangwang has set a starting price of approximately $300,000 for its new flagship electric sedan. The vehicle, which measures roughly 5,500 millimeters in length, will make its global debut in the United Arab Emirates rather than in China.
Hu Xiaoqing, the general manager of Yangwang, confirmed the launch plans this week. The company has not yet announced a specific date, though the sedan is expected to appear officially this month. The decision to launch abroad first marks a distinct shift for the brand, which has historically introduced vehicles in its home market.
The new model is designed to compete directly with established ultra-luxury marques such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. Its dimensions and shape are comparable to the Rolls-Royce Phantom. This move represents a major price jump for BYD, a company widely known for affordable vehicles like the Seagull, which sells for under $10,000 in China.
Hu released images of the sedan undergoing testing last month. Although the vehicle was covered in camouflage, the photos revealed rear-hinged coach doors, a design feature new to the BYD lineup. The sedan was also pictured at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting it supports megawatt flash charging capabilities.
The car is reportedly the first model to utilize BYD's solid-state batteries. Stella Li, executive vice president, told Carwow.es last month that the company's first solid-state battery vehicle would debut in 2027. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, stated the sedan will feature "unprecedented disruptive technology," though he provided no technical details.
The $300,000 price tag places the new sedan far above Yangwang's current inventory. The existing U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or about $98,000. The U8L plug-in hybrid SUV is currently the brand's most expensive mass-produced vehicle, with a starting price of 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000.
Yangwang serves as the top tier of BYD's expanded lineup, which now includes the Denza and FangChengBao sub-brands. The brand showcases BYD's newest technologies, including the quad-motor e4 platform that generates 1,300 horsepower and the DiSus-X intelligent body control system.
