Cuyahoga Falls officials are set to formally open a new public corridor that connects the city’s downtown business district with the Cuyahoga River. The RiverLoop, a component of a larger $7.1 million infrastructure project, will be dedicated at a community celebration on Saturday, Oct. 24. The event is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Pavilion and Plaza on Front Street.

The three-quarter-mile route replaces a lower wooden boardwalk with a new foundation and decking. Above the river level, a wider concrete walkway now provides ADA accessible passage. Mayor Don Walters stated that the renovation included new boards and a new foundation for the lower portion of the path. He described the new space as adding to what he considers the best downtown in the region.

The project includes specific features designed for public use, such as scenic overlooks, public art installations, and a stage facing the water. Built-in seating and colorful artwork surround the stage, a location Walters noted had previously been underutilized. He indicated the stage can hold more than 100 people and offers a clear view of the river. The South Front Street Transformation component adds streetscape improvements intended to integrate the riverfront more closely with the commercial area.

Local businesses are anticipating increased foot traffic from the new route. Nathan Walden, owner of Hope Soap, a store located along the path, said his shop makes products by hand using natural ingredients. Walden expressed the belief that the RiverLoop will draw more visitors to downtown and benefit nearby merchants. He noted an uptick in activity in recent years and described the new project as a major factor for the local business environment.

Visitors will find 10 points of interest along the loop that provide information on local wildlife, including bald eagles and river otters, as well as the river's history. QR codes at each location link to additional facts. Walters cited the river's connection to Niagara Falls and the Atlantic Ocean as an example of the educational content available to the public.

A noon tour led by Mayor Walters will feature guest speakers explaining the design and construction of the project's various elements. Maps will be available for those who wish to explore independently. Members of the architectural and construction teams, along with city staff, are expected to attend the event. Light refreshments will be served, and Walters plans to officiate a wedding at a venue within the RiverLoop during the afternoon.

Walters stated that the attraction is designed for year-round use rather than seasonal access. The formal opening follows more than a year of construction work on the site.
