Ten downtown blocks in Corpus Christi will close to vehicle traffic on Saturday for the 19th annual Día de los Muertos Street Festival. The free event runs from 1 p.m. to midnight and will include live music, food, art, and cultural performances. A central feature of the festival is a community ofrenda, which provides a space for families to honor deceased loved ones.
The holiday focuses on remembering the dead and celebrating their lives. This year's event is part of a larger weekend of gatherings across the Coastal Bend. Alongside the street festival, the Villain Invasion Halloween Fest occupies the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina on Saturday and Sunday.
Attendees at the Halloween fest can meet actors from horror films, participate in costume contests, and join gaming tournaments. Weekend passes begin at $20, with free admission for children 12 and under. Visitors who bring two nonperishable food items for the Coastal Bend Food Bank can receive a special-edition event poster while supplies last.
On Saturday morning, the Monster Mash Cupcake Dash returns to Water's Edge Park. Participants choose between a 5K, a 10K, or a 2-mile walk while dressed in costume. Every finisher receives a cupcake, and proceeds support Family Counseling Services, a mental health provider in the region.
For a quieter option, Asbury Methodist Church hosts family pumpkin painting from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Families select and purchase pumpkins to decorate together. The church's pumpkin patch remains open through Halloween.
A new event called Hocus Pocus Corpus debuts at the Hilliard Center Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The free gathering includes trick-or-treating, door prizes, a community resource fair, and a presentation on renters' rights.
