Runner records road crossings in under one second with smart glasses
A 9to5Google writer describes using Meta eyewear to capture video evidence during runs, citing a sub-second start time for recording.

Nick, a writer for 9to5Google, reported on October 23 that Meta AI glasses now function as personal dashcams for runners. The device captures video in less than one second, providing immediate visual records of street crossings.
The practice began when Nick took up running this summer. Although friends questioned the activity, Nick noted that fear of traffic often causes them to speed up during road crossings. This urgency prompted a search for a way to document potential incidents while on foot.
Nick determined that carrying a phone was impractical. An armband holster did not allow for quick access, and holding a phone disrupted the run. The solution was the camera already built into the Meta glasses Nick wore during workouts to upload clips to Strava.
The setup uses Meta Nova or Oakley Meta HSTN models. When a vehicle approaches, Nick holds the camera button to start recording. After crossing the street, a second press stops the footage manually. The glasses record in three-minute segments, ensuring a clip is unlikely to end before an incident concludes.
Footage remains stored on the glasses until they reconnect to a phone, at which point the files sync automatically. Nick describes the process as effortless and effective insurance against accidents. They stated that the system works as impressive insurance if something goes wrong on a run.
Nick advised runners on model selection. For a tight fit and sporty style, the Oakley Meta HSTN is recommended. For a lower budget, the basic Meta-branded pairs are a viable option since Nick said there is no functional difference among the latest models. Rokid AI Glasses are cited as the best alternative for those avoiding Meta products.
Nick acknowledged that some users express negativity about cameras on eyewear. However, they argued that the utility of having a camera available outweighs the drawbacks. If purchasing a new pair today, Nick said they would be unlikely to choose one without a camera.
