The new Galaxy W27 will cost $1,000 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra when it goes on sale in China on October 29. This price premium distinguishes the device from other models in Samsung's current lineup. Leaker Ice Universe confirmed the release date, which is six days away from the report's publication date.

The device features a glossy blue back panel with gold accents surrounding a triple-camera array. According to Ice Universe, the hardware specifications match those of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The design aligns with the top-tier model rather than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. This marks a departure from previous years where the W series often rebranded the standard foldable.

Samsung has maintained a yearly tradition of releasing China-only variants of its Galaxy foldables. These devices typically include elaborate packaging and extra styling. The 2026 model follows this pattern by basing the W27 on the Ultra variant. This choice contrasts with the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, which has a different shape that is currently popular with customers.

Wide-format foldables are gaining traction in the Chinese market. Xiaomi's latest foldable utilizes a nearly identical form factor. Huawei has released wide foldables for a longer period than any other manufacturer. The W27 enters this competitive segment as Samsung's final foldable release for 2026.

The launch coincides with increased attention on Samsung's foldable lineup. The company states the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a commercial success. It also notes that the iPhone Duo has increased industry focus on foldable displays. Analysts project a 44% increase in foldable display shipments in 2026 as these wide models become more common.

Samsung has updated several Galaxy devices to Android 17 recently. The company has plans for multiple new foldables next year. If the leaked schedule holds, the W27 will be the last foldable released this year.
