College basketball fans can find better pricing on title futures by looking past the public favorites. Betting analyst David argues that the market overvalues Duke and Florida while undervaluing the potential of UConn, Texas, and Kansas. He suggests holding these positions as a hedge against early-season upsets.
Duke enters the season as a top contender with odds of +550 to win the national championship. The Blue Devils possess one of the best recruiting classes in the sport. However, David notes that the team is heavily supported by public money, which can inflate their standing. He expects Duke to finish the regular season with no more than three or four losses but finds little value at the current price.
Florida sits as the second favorite at +600. The Gators rely on returning talent rather than new recruits, as they do not currently rank in the top 100. They finished 27-8 last season and won the championship two years ago. Three of their top four scorers return, and the squad features many upperclassmen who offer poise. David prefers them to Duke but sees better options elsewhere.
UConn offers the highest value at +1250 according to the analyst. The Huskies have won two of the last four national titles and returned to contention last year. They bring back key guards Braylon Mullins and Solo Ball. The recruiting class ranks 18th nationally, and the team added Nikolas Khamenia and Najai Hines via the transfer portal. David expects UConn to reach at least the Elite 8.
Texas holds the top-ranked recruiting class for the 2026-27 season. The Longhorns face the challenge of integrating new players who were generally four-star recruits. Two forwards from Dynamic Prep in Dallas already know each other, which may speed up their chemistry. David lists Texas at +1900 as a potential hedge ticket, noting he does not expect them to win the title but sees value in the price.
Kansas enters the season with a roster in transition. The Jayhawks went 24-11 last year but lost Darryn Peterson and their other three leading scorers. Top incoming freshman Tyran Stokes will lead the new class. David anticipates early struggles but believes the team has the potential to coalesce. He places a bet on Kansas at +3000.
