Gemini Android app pushes chat list down and unifies settings page
A server-side update pushes the redesigned sidebar and unified settings to Android users, following last week's rollout to other platforms.

Google is distributing a major interface change to the Gemini app on Android. The update, delivered via a server-side push, modifies the side panel and consolidates all settings into a single page. No new app download is required for users to receive the changes.
The most visible alteration is in the navigation drawer. The search function has moved to the top-right corner. New chat remains the first option, followed immediately by Library. Previously, Library was located near the bottom of the menu. To reduce visual clutter, the app now displays only the five most recent chats by default. Tapping a new 'More' button expands the full list. For AI Ultra subscribers, the complete menu includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.
Settings have also been reorganized. Google merged preferences that were previously split between the account menu and a separate settings area. The account menu is now limited to switching accounts, submitting feedback, and accessing help. The new unified Settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits.
A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry marked as new. The page concludes with Data & privacy and Get support sections. Data & privacy contains Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. Get support lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates.
This Android rollout follows a similar update that reached iOS, macOS, and the web app last week. That earlier release coincided with the launch of Gemini 4 Argon. The current change arrives after a previous update that renamed Spark to Task.
Recent changes to the Gemini app also include the release of Gemini Notebook as a Connected App. Free users are now directed to 'Auto' models as the app adds thinking levels. A new Map tool has also arrived, replacing the '/' shortcut with '@'.
