As the Minnesota Class 6A regular season concluded on Friday night, the East Metro region witnessed several decisive shifts in the playoff landscape, ranging from a subdistrict championship clinched by Roseville to a game-deciding field goal in the south metro. The final week of play resulted in significant movements for team seeding and established individual statistical leaders for the year.
Roseville secured the Metro Maroon subdistrict title with a 24-14 victory over Coon Rapids. The win brought the Raiders' final record to 4-4, marking the program's highest finish since 2017. Senior quarterback Chase Browning orchestrated the offense, passing for 162 yards and three touchdowns. Following the game, Browning expressed satisfaction with the team's achievement, stating, "It's an amazing feeling. I don't even have words for it. We've all worked so hard. It's great to see it finally paying off."
In another key matchup, Centennial dominated Anoka 38-6, a performance that appears to secure the Cougars the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Class 6A playoffs and positions them as a potential contender for a deep November run. Anoka's six points represented their lowest scoring output of the season, marking the first time the team had been held to single digits.
Mounds View claimed sole possession of the Metro East subdistrict title following a tight contest against White Bear Lake that ended 22-16. Trailing by two points late in the game, the Mustangs advanced when quarterback Tanner Jude scored on a one-yard run with 65 seconds remaining. A subsequent two-point conversion expanded the lead to six. The Mustangs' defense then intercepted a pass on White Bear Lake's next possession to secure the result. That defense held White Bear Lake quarterback Wyatt Stachowiak to six completions on 24 attempts.
East Ridge concluded a season that likely did not go as planned by defeating rival Woodbury 42-31. Logan Tretter contributed two rushing touchdowns for East Ridge. Late in the contest, Elias Mather returned an interception for a score to place the outcome beyond Woodbury's reach.
Forest Lake running back Mack Jurkovich posted the night's top individual performance, rushing for 245 yards and two touchdowns. The Rangers beat Stillwater 31-13, a result that locks up a No. 2 seed in the Class 6A playoffs. Jurkovich, who has committed to St. Thomas, ended the regular season with 1,600 rushing yards.
Park junior receiver Manny Vargas also stood out, scoring twice in the Wolfpack's 18-10 win over Eastview. He caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt 75 yards for a score.
The most dramatic finish occurred in the south metro, where Lakeville South sophomore kicker Dylan Nelson connected on a 36-yard field goal with one second remaining to give the Cougars a 17-14 upset of Rosemount. The result complicates the seeding picture in the south metro for the Class 6A playoffs.
Looking ahead to the Class 6A playoffs, the final seedings and matchups remain the next step for these programs. While several teams have secured specific seeding positions based on Friday's results, the full playoff bracket and the specific opponents for teams such as Roseville and East Ridge are not detailed in the final reports from Friday night.
