Walmart has filed plans to construct a 712,000-square-foot distribution center in Cibolo, a project valued at $400 million. The facility, internally designated as Project Theo, will occupy land just off Interstate 10 in Guadalupe County. The site currently lists the address 3641 S. Santa Clara Road, which corresponds to the San Antonio Raceway. A state licensing filing confirms the building will cover an area equivalent to approximately 16 football fields.

The company filed the project with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The site history adds context to the new development. The San Antonio Raceway, which previously occupied the location, is listed as permanently closed on major mapping platforms. A phone call to the raceway confirmed its number is no longer in service. The new warehouse will sit on ground that hosted a motorsports venue for decades.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2027. Walmart expects to complete the facility by August 2029. The project follows a standard timeline for major distribution hubs in the region. The company operates 38 stores in the San Antonio area. It also maintains an existing distribution center in New Braunfels that serves stores along the Interstate 35 corridor.

Cibolo attracts large industrial projects because of its position at the intersection of Interstate 35 and Interstate 10. The city’s website notes that dozens of industrial companies operate in the area, including manufacturers of heavy machinery, shopping carts, and gaskets. Japanese transmission maker Aisin opened a 500,000-square-foot plant in Cibolo in 2019. That facility brought 900 jobs and another $400 million in investment to the municipality.

Walmart’s global profile states the company serves approximately 270 million customers weekly across 19 countries. The retailer reported fiscal year 2025 revenue of $681 billion and employs about 2.1 million associates worldwide. The new Cibolo hub will add to its regional logistics network, supporting stores and e-commerce operations in the area.
