Fans watching the 2027 Super Bowl will see Jay-Z take the stage for the first time as the sole headliner. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation confirmed on Tuesday that the 25-time Grammy winner will lead the halftime performance on Feb. 14, 2027. The event will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The broadcast will air on ESPN, ABC, and Disney+, with mobile streaming available through NFL+. This announcement follows the league's partnership with Roc Nation, which has managed the halftime show production and advised on live music entertainment since 2019. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, holds a dual role as the performer and a key figure in the event's organization.
In a statement, Jay-Z reflected on his career trajectory, noting the connection between his 1996 debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," and his upcoming stage appearance. He described the moment as a dream come true after thirty years of work in music and culture. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had requested that Jay-Z perform when the timing felt right, expressing excitement for fans to experience the artist's cultural impact on the biggest stage in sports.
The rapper has spent recent months touring in celebration of album anniversaries. He concluded his "JA-5-Z30" concert run with performances at SoFi Stadium, following stops at Yankee Stadium in New York and venues in Europe. These recent shows featured guest appearances from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, and DJ Khaled.
The selection of Jay-Z places a central figure of hip-hop at the helm of the league's primary entertainment event. The league has not yet announced any other performers for the show. Given the rapper's history of collaborations and his wife Beyoncé's previous halftime appearances, observers expect speculation regarding guest artists to continue in the coming months.
